Cardboard Boat Regatta, Waterfront Festival, Watkins Glen, NY, Finger Lakes Wine Country
The Watkins Glen Cardboard Boat Regatta was conceived by Dean Kimball in February of 1994 as an addition to the Watkins Glen Waterfront Festival. During a meeting held at the Wildflower Cafe Dean sketched the original course design... Note the wine stains in the lower right hand corner, probably Red Cat!!!

Remember... there is nothing...
absolutely nothing...
half so much worth doing,
as simply messing about in boats!!!

The 21st Annual Watkins Glen Waterfront Festival & “Nearly Famous” Cardboard Boat Regatta June 13th and 14th 2014

Welcome Cardboard Boaters!
Once again thank you for taking part, actually for being the stars, of this wonderful and wacky event. Without each and every one of you there is no Regatta. We say this every year…because it’s true!
Registration forms are available online at this web site or you may pick up registration forms at the new Watkins Glen Promotions office at 211 North Franklin Street in Watkins Glen. The final time to register your boat will be Monday June 9th.
Boat parking location will be in the same location in the parking area adjacent to Village Marina at Seneca Harbor Park and again this year each boat and crew will have an assigned location.
Friday evening between 5p and 8p you may visit the Registration Tent at the launch area in Seneca Harbor Park and to pick up your Registration Bag with boat numbers and tee shirts if you have ordered them. If you are not able to pick up your registration bag Friday evening please report to the Registration tent upon your arrival on Saturday.
Boat load in will begin at 9:00am Saturday June 14thand will be completed by 11:30am. Enter as usual at Decatur Street. Our Boat Parking Crew will direct you to your assigned location. In order to create a safe and orderly area all vehicles and trailers will be removed from the parking area to an adjacent location.
At Noon the “Concourse de Cardboard” will be open for public display and also voting. This year the public will again be voting on People’s Choice. Please feel free to decorate your “area” and display your boat so that the public can view your boat for People’s Choice voting. Bribing the public is allowed.
Please remember everything you bring in must be taken back out and your assigned area left clean. As always we look forward to the event and to the wonderful and inventive boats you create.
Most importantly the spirit of the event is cardboard, duct tape, glue and paint. Absolutely no wood, nails or screws or Styrofoam filler. Sadly, these materials were found in a piece of boat which fell apart at the start. Not only are these construction materials banned they present a danger to anyone in the water when they come apart. If you cannot build a cardboard boat without these materials then do not participate in this event. Any boat found to be built with these materials will immediately be asked to leave the venue.

Sincerely,

Cardboard Boat Regatta
